People outside their homeland kept hearing word of a place where all sorts of magical creatures roamed, and some of these outsiders held malicious feelings toward the creatures. They misunderstood what they knew nothing about, and wanted to harm them out of fear.

Some people want to get rid of what they don't understand.

why do people wanna get rid of things they don't understand?

Because... Fear that thing might be harmful, so they choose to get rid of it instead of risk learning about it.

the fairy's s'posed to protect everybody and save the dragon and chase away all the bad guys
