The world, Evie knew, was a big, big place and she couldn't be chained to that one place for the rest of her life. Her family seemed so content to be with the same people day after day. They were so content to just see the same things every day. But after her big brother Noah left, all Evie could think about was what he was doing. What kind of people was he meeting? What kinds of food was he eating? Oh, Evie wanted to try the things she smelled sometimes when she flew too close to Hazleton.

She wanted to be a part of that world.

Sometimes, she snuck off to watch them at school. The kids looked so happy as they met one another. They had secret handshakes and they exchanged notes before classes. The younger kids played card games and video games. They traded toys. Evie never had that because it was basically just her sisters and Noah. All her life, she had little to do with the other clans around them, but not for trying.

There used to be a girl she played with a lot from the owl clan but they moved farther up the mountain when Evie was ten. Evie missed her so much. It had been forever since they met up, although they did occasionally. Being nocturnal creatures, sometimes they could get away with it. Evie was easy to miss in her large family but her best friend... not so much. Not to mention how overbearing her family was! Being their only child, Evie supposed she kinda understood but at the same time... She missed her so much.

She missed Noah, too.

That was what led to it. That and Kirstie telling her that she needed to grow up. Stop being such a baby and grow up! Hmph! She'd show her GROWN UP. She would be more grown up than Kirstie ever was. She wasn't going to stay in the stupid mountains forever. No, she was going to seek her... fortune--yeah! Out in the world! In Hazleton.

The only problem was that after flying into town and shifting back, she um... She didn't know where to go next.
