"Yes!" Sasashi immediately agreed. Flying would be faster and to be honest, they must have been on the same wavelength because once the class was over, Sasashi exchanged a look at Tsuyoi. Then he reached out and slid his hand into his and slipped away from the rest of their classmates as they filtered out to head for their next scheduled class.

"Let's go now!" Sasashi insisted. Who cared about the next class? They would learn the same things over and over again to drill it into their heads anyway. Then they would move onto the next thing. He felt like they would be missing a lot more if they didn't head to the Grottoes right away. The longer they waited, the more likely the ship would leave.

"Fly, fly, fly!"

"Hurry hurry this way!" Tsuyoi was ready to go long before class ended, as he'd been secretly eyeing the exit. Or, more accurately, the sky. As soon as their teacher's back was turned, he was prepared to grab Sasashi and take off--except Sasashi had the same idea as him, and grabbed him first! (But he totally had the idea first.)

Dragging his best friend around a post, out of sight of the rest of the class, he adjusted his bag so that the harp inside sat more snugly--and wouldn't poke into Sasashi when he flung his arms around him. There was no other way to take a passenger along and he wasn't shifting because then he might lose his bag!

Up they went, on a burst of youthful energy that sent them soaring high above the roof of the palace. A large portion of it had been dedicated to training young men and women, separated from the Emperor's residence and where he held court. Curiosity had Tsuyoi floating a little closer than usual, and he just bumped into the protective barrier enclosing the royal courtyard, jostling his cargo.

"Oops! Hang on tight!" He swerved off on a bit of a tail wind and made off for the grottoes off in the distance.

"I can fly myself--!" Sasashi tried to say but he had already grabbed onto Tsuyoi and they were already well on their way now. In fact, they had flown for fun before in the past but it was true that Tsuyoi's flying form was larger than Sasashi's. When he was alarmingly nearly tipped over, he yelped and held onto Tsuyoi harder, looking down at the ground with a kind of fear he didn't feel for so long. Being able to fly made him a lot less afraid of flying... although it had taken him a long time to learn to fly on his own.

Everybody pushed him to do it and the more they pushed, the less likely he was to want to try. Part of him knew that it was a natural ability of his but another part of him said he was fine being close to the ground. Besides, he could glide and that was... somewhat the same. (Not really.) BUT! With Tsuyoi's help, he had been learning to fly properly and also that flying was exhilarating, exciting, it made his tummy dip low, and his heart flutter. Honestly, he thought flying was really what the bards sung about when they were talking about l.o.v.e.

As much as he'd like to though, flying from midair without having shifted first? No-o-o-t the best idea in the world.

And then his thoughts shifted as they flew closer to the grottoes and he saw it--he saw the first glimpse of the ship and it was real and it was glorious. His eyes went huge and wide.

"It's real!" Not that he didn't believe Tsuyoi but... it was! It was actually, really there! "And it's still there! Should we sneak onboard?"

Sasashi was too slow! Tsuyoi didn't say it, but they both knew that he could fly them faster than if he had his best friend trailing along behind him, getting distracted by all sorts of things. (Not to say that Tsuyoi didn't get distracted just as easily, but he did fly a little bit faster!) Not to mention, the magic that kept Float Isle in the sky also flowed through him, lending him extra flight time.

As a--ahem ahem--more evolved shifter, he didn't tire as easily with a passenger along for the ride. Soon they were hovering above the grottoes and the ship was right where he'd left it, nestled between two shallow peaks. It wasn't obvious from the ground; someone had taken pains to cover it up. But from the air, the ship was nearly impossible to miss.

"Of course it's real! I told you it was here!" He set them down a ways off from the ship, landing softly into a forested area nearby. Tsuyoi adjusted his bag around his hips and peered out. Now the ship wasn't as easy to make out, but he could just about see the top of a mast poking out. Tsuyoi threw out an arm. "Wait! Was that a shadow moving around down there?!"

Once his feet hit the ground, Sasashi was all ready to go snooping but then Tsuyoi held out an arm. Letting out a sigh, Sasashi started to ask what now?! When he noticed the shadow moving around, however, he fell silent and gulped back his words. Biting his lower lip, he nodded slowly to Tsuyoi. He saw it, too. So that meant they weren't imagining things. Somebody else was here. Edging super close to his best friend, Sasashi gripped onto his shoulders and whispered, "Who do you think it is?"

Because it could be anybody. The owner of the ship. One of the crewmen. Or it could be somebody like them, poking their nose where it didn't belong. Worse still, it could be a full on criminal!

At the thought, Sasashi went for his dagger and found that he didn't have it on him. It had been exchanged for the training weaponry! His heart sank as he held the thing; it was little more than a toy unless in the most capable of hands. Which one could say Sasashi was not.

"It's moving again!" Sasashi said, gripping Tsuyoi's shoulders when he realized that the shadow was moving closer to them!

Was it friend, or foe?! Tsuyoi gripped the tree in front of him hard, letting the rough bark cut into his palms as he flattened himself against it and only poked part of his head out. "I don't know! Stop pushing me!" Sasashi was grabbing him and pressing up against him, which pushed him further into the tree. It wasn't helping!

"Look! Are those horns?!" He made short jabbing motions in the direction of the shadow, which was elongated as it fell on the ground. It was getting closer, but not with any hurry, which was worse because Tsuyoi had a feeling that the shadow wasn't half as frightened as they were about this encounter!

"Should we run?!" he whisper-hissed over his shoulder at Sasashi, starting to edge away from the tree anyway. He could fly! The shadow couldn't catch them if they flew again, right?! But then he noticed the wings on the shadow and let out an inward groan. So much for that plan! Those wings looked a hell of a lot bigger than his--he was going to bet that they flew faster and further, too!
