Judo/Jujitsu - Judo is a system of unarmed combat. It's viewed as an eclectic martial art, distinguishing itself from its predecessors due to an emphasis on free sparring instead pre-arranged forms alongside its removal of striking and weapon training elements. A judo practitioner is called a "judoka", and the judo uniform is called "judogi". The objective is to throw an opponent, immobilize them with a pin, or force an opponent to submit with a joint lock or a choke. While strikes and use of weapons are included in some pre-arranged forms (kata), they are not as frequently trained. Judo's philosophy revolves around 2 primary principles: "Seiryoku-Zenyo" (maximum efficient use of energy) and "Jita-Kyoei" (mutual welfare and benefit).
The son of a warlord of Yamato. The son of a woman from the Middle Kingdom. Yet his identity given to him from his mother's side, all but erased, as is hers. His mother was taken by his father--not out of love--but out of a need to possess.
As a young child, Tatsu was not aware of any of this. He saw little of his father in his younger years, when he was tutored or apprenticed to others. He saw much more of his loving mother, a gentle soul but with a weakness in her that always terrified Tatsu. Sometimes, as he grew older, it even angered him. Why would she not speak up when she felt wronged? It seemed to him a kind of cowardice, something he never wanted to be.
Most of Tatsu's training was in the form of melee. Hand-to-hand combat was where he shone. While a weapon was useful from time to time, as he would go on to teach those under him--nothing was as reliable as the body for a weapon. It could not be taken away, did not need to be concealed. The purest form of weaponry--the human body.
Tatsu saw war in his teen years and into his twenties. He saw bloody skirmishes with his own eyes and even led two battles of his own when his commanders were no longer able to go on. At twenty-nine, he retired. He was meant to settle down with a wife and kids, but the wife was short-lived. He was arranged a marriage to a sickly woman who died two years into their marriage and bore no children from the union. Afterward, Tatsu spent his time instead concentrating on his mentoring work.
