Thirty-five years ago, the moon shattered.

It began with dark spots that appeared on the moon's surface, a spreading blight that concerned the citizens of mana-rich Quora Prime, who depended on the moon to block out The Dawn. The people kept a close watch over their solitary moon, provider of both light and safety. As the spots spread across the entirety of its surface, the people grew alarmed and panic set across the three largest nations--Elysia, Tuari and Navir.

Councils gathered and Elders convened to discuss a possible solution, but none of the three nations could agree on a course of action. Before anything could be done, the spots began to shift again--this time off of the moon and towards the planet.

Monsters fell from the skies. Ferals, they were later named, and feral they were as they attacked everything within sight. The moon that they vacated was visible again, but its once lustrous surface was now cracked. Soon, it shattered, and The Dawn came upon Quora Prime, blinding nearly all of its inhabitants.

People struggled to erect barriers and domes to protect themselves from the sudden light flooding their planet, flocking to Elysia City--the capital of Elysia, to Tuari's underground bunkers, to Navir's lush tropical forests to seek shelter under the awning of trees. They had reprieve from The Dawn for ten hours as the planet made its rotation, but now without a moon to constantly shield them, daytime became a thousand times more dangerous.

And still the ferals continued to attack, to raze once-proud cities, bringing towers and citadels down to become crumbling ruins.

A strange phenomenon also began to occur: Shifters. People scratched, grazed or wounded by ferals began to change into the monsters that attacked them. These shifters were rounded up and sent away to Tuari, once a distant outpost housing criminals and rebels. Their astounding magical abilities soon came to light during a prison rebellion and governments were quick to seize upon their newfound talent, granting pardons to shifters and giving them new names--Magi.

Shifter Magi became front-line defenders of settlements and towns, often against their wills. And the Organics, the original inhabitants of Quora Prime, carried on with the task of reviving their ravaged planet.
